MEAN

Introduction

Logic is the study of reasoning. It is specifically concerned with whether the reasoning is correct. Logic focuses on the relationship among propositions. Consider, for example, the following statement:

All ICT students read variables.
Anyone who read variables is an algebraist.
Therefore, all ICT students are algebraists.

Technically, logic does not help to determine whether any of these propositions is true; however, if the first two propositions are true, logic assures that the third proposition will be true,

i.e., All ICT students are algebraists, is true.

The rules of logic give precise meaning to mathematical propositions. The rules can be used to distinguish valid and invalid mathematical arguments. Therefore, logic is also essential in reading and developing proofs. Besides the importance of logic in understanding mathematical reasoning, and proofs, logic has numerous applications in computer science. These rules are used to design computer circuits, computer programs, and in many other ways. So, we will discuss these applications of logic in this unit.




Example

Consider the interpersonal relations of a small group. There are just four girls – A, B, C, D. Some of the girls like each other, but some do not. The following figure shows one set of possibilities. The figure below shows one possible world. In this world, every girl likes exactly two other girls, and every girl is liked by just two girls.

There are 216 (65,536) possible combinations of these true-false possibilities, so there are 216 possible worlds. This is where Logic comes in. By writing logical sentences, each informant can express exactly what he or she knows - no more, no less. For our part, we can use the sentences we have been told to draw conclusions that are logically entailed by those sentences. And we can use logical proofs to explain our conclusions to others. Let's consider each of these elements in turn.

Logic का नियमहरूले गणितीय प्रस्तावहरूलाई सटीक अर्थ दिन्छ। यस्ता नियमहरूले वैध र अवैध गणितीय तर्कहरू छुट्याउन मद्दत गर्छ। तसर्थ, Theorem हरु पढ्न र विकास गर्न पनि Logic आवश्यक छ। साथै कम्प्युटर विज्ञानमा पनि Logic का धेरै प्रयोगहरू छन्। यसबाट कम्प्युटर सर्किटहरू, कम्प्युटर प्रोग्रामहरू, र अन्य कुराहरु डिजाइन गर्न सकिन्छ। त्यसैले, हामी यस इकाईमा Logic का प्रयोगहरूको बारेमा छलफल गर्नेछौं।




Proposition and Truth function

In English literature, sentences are classified as declarative, exclamatory, interrogative, or imperative. In this unit, we confine our attention to those declarative sentences which has only one truth value either ‘true’ or ‘false’. We call such sentences propositions. It is a declarative sentence (that is, a sentence that declares a fact) that is either true or false, but not both. The main importance is that propositions are basic building blocks of logic. We start the concept of a proposition with a few examples.

Example
  1. The sentence ‘Kathmandu is in Nepal; is true. So it is a statement.
  2. The sentence “Every rectangle is a square” is false. So it is a statement.
  3. The sentence “Close the door” can not be assigned true or false. So it is NOT a statement.
  4. The sentence “How old are you?” can not be assigned true or false. So it is NOT a statement.
  5. The truth or falsity of the sentence “x is a natural number” depends on the value of x. So it is NOT a statement. However, in some books, it is called an open statement.
  6. KTM is the capital city of Nepal
  7. 1 + 1 = 2
  8. 2 + 2 = 3
  9. x+2=5
NOTE Statements 6,7,8 are propositions. But, statement 9 is NOT a proposition.

The propositions are denoted by small English letters, for example; a,b,c,d,... For example,

  1. p: KTM is the capital city of Nepal.
  2. q: 1 + 1 = 2.
  3. r: 2 + 2 = 3.
NOTE

The true value of a proposition is denoted by T, and the false value is denoted by F.




Propositional Logic

The area of logic that deals with propositions is called the propositional calculus or propositional logic. It was first developed systematically by the Greek philosopher Aristotle more than 2300 years ago. Many mathematical propositions are constructed by combining one or more propositions.
There are two types of propositions.

  1. Simple proposition
  2. Compound proposition
Simple proposition

Simple proposition are single proposition whose truth value does not depend on other proposition. For example,

  1. p: 2+2=5
  2. q: 3>1
NOTE: single is simple.
Compound proposition

Compound proposition is a new propositions formed from existing propositions using logical operators. It is multiple propositions. It is composition of simple propositions whose truth value depends on anchor (connective) proposition. For example,

  1. p: 2+2=5 and q: 3>1
  2. q: If battery is low then the light is dim.
NOTE: multiple is compound.


Logical Connectives

In logic, compound propositions are formed by connecting two or more simple propositions. To connect the simple proposition, logic utilize connectives. These connectives are also called logical connectives. The common logical connectives are given below.

Logical Connectives: Negation

Let p is a simple proposition, then the negation of p is a compound proposition, denoted by ~p and defined by
~p is true if p is false and vice-versa.

The negation of p is the statement “It is not the case that p.” The proposition ~p is read “not p.” The truth value of ~p is the opposite of the truth value of p. This is given below.

Negation of words

Let us see an example. We know that "some" means "at least one," therefore, the logical opposite of "some" will be "none." Therefore, the negation of "some" is "none." Now, let's look at other statements.

NOTE

In expressions involving some or all of the operators ~, ∧, and ∨, in the absence of parentheses, we first evaluate ~, then ∧, and then ∨. We call such a convention operator precedence. In algebra, operator precedence tells us to evaluate BODMAS. In logic, it is NCD.

Example 2

Given that proposition p is false, proposition q is true, and proposition r is false, then determine the value of proposition ~p ∨ q ∧ r




Logical Connectives: Conjunction

Let p and q be two simple propositions, then the conjunction of p and q is a compound proposition, denoted by pq and defined by

pq is true if p is true and q is true.
otherwise, pq is false.

In logic “but” can be used instead of “and” in conjunction. For example,

  1. The sun is shining, but it is raining
  2. The sun is shining and it is raining
  3. Here, both propositions are the same.

(In natural language, there is a subtle difference in meaning between “and” and “but”; however, logic will not care about this nuance here.)

The validity of conjunction is described in a table. This table is called the truth table. This is given below.

Logical Connectives: Disjunction

Let p and q are two simple propositions, then disjunction of p and q is a compound proposition, denoted by p∨q and defined by

p∨q is true if p is true or q is true.
otherwise p∨q is false.

The use of the connective or in a disjunction corresponds to one of the two ways the word or is used in English, namely, as an inclusive or. A disjunction is true when at least one of the two propositions is true. For instance, the inclusive or is being used in the statement
“Students who have taken calculus or computer science can take class.”
Here, we mean that students who have taken both calculus and computer science can take the class, as well as the students who have taken only one of the two subjects.

On the other hand, we are using the exclusive or when we say
“Students who have taken calculus or computer science, but not both, can enroll in class.”

Here, we mean that students who have taken both calculus and a computer science course cannot take the class. Only those who have taken exactly one of the two courses can take the class. Similarly, when a menu at a restaurant states, “Soup or salad comes with an entrée,” the restaurant almost always means that customers can have either soup or salad, but not both. Hence, this is an exclusive, rather than an inclusive or.

The validity of disjunction is describe by a table. This table is called truth table. This is given as below.

Let p and q be propositions. The exclusive or of p and q, denoted by p ⊕ q, is the proposition that is true when exactly one of p and q is true and is false otherwise.




Logical Connectives: Conditional

Let p and q be two simple propositions, then the conditional of p and q is a compound proposition, denoted by p→q and defined by

p→q is false if p is true and q is false.
otherwise, p→q is true.

In the conditional statement p → q, p is called the hypothesis (or antecedent or premise) and q is called the conclusion (or consequence). A conditional statement is also called an implication.

A useful way to understand the truth value of a conditional statement is to think of an obligation or a contract. For example, a politician says when asking for a vote is that “If I am elected, then I will make the road pitch.”
In this case,

  1. If the politician is elected, and he made the road pitch, it is all right.
  2. If the politician is not elected, and he made the road pitch, it is all right.
  3. If the politician is not elected, and he does not make the road pitch, it is all right.
  4. If the politician is elected, and he does not make the road pitch, it is NOT right.

Thus, it is only when the politician is elected but does not pitch the road that voters can say that the politician has broken the assurance. This last scenario corresponds to the case when p is true but q is false in p → q.

The validity of the conditional is described in a table. This table is called the truth table. This is given below.

NOTE

“If Kiran has a smartphone, then 2 + 3 = 5” is true from the definition of a conditional statement, because its conclusion is true. (The truth value of the hypothesis does not matter then.) The conditional statement “If Kiran has a smartphone, then 2 + 3 = 6” is true if Kiran does not have a smartphone, even though 2 + 3 = 6 is false.

Therefore, we would not use conditional statements in natural language, because there is no relationship between the hypothesis and the conclusion in either statement. In mathematical reasoning, the mathematical concept of a conditional statement is independent of a cause-and-effect relationship between the hypothesis and the conclusion. Our definition of a conditional statement specifies its truth values; it is not based on English usage. Propositional language is an artificial language; we only parallel English usage to make it easy to use and remember.

Let p and q are two simple propositions, and p→q is its conditional proposition, then various other conditional propositions can be formed. These are as follows.

  1. Converse:
    The converse of the conditional proposition
    “if p then q” [or p→ q] is “if q then p” [or q → p]
  2. Inverse:
    The inverse of the conditional proposition

Validity of Logical Consequences of a conditional proposition
  1. If conditional proposition p → q is true then contrapositive ~q→ ~p is true and vice-versa. A separate truth table is not necessary.
  2. If convers proposition q → p is true then inverse ~p→~ q is true and vice-versa. A separate truth table is not necessary.
  3. If conditional proposition p → q is true then converse q → p (or inverse ~p→~ q) may be true or may be false. So, a separate truth table is necessary.

Expressing propositions in Logic

The propositions in logic are expressed using a propositional function. A propositional function is a function whose variables are propositions. It is mapped by {T, F}→{T, F}n where n is a number of propositions.

Tautology and Contradiction

A compound proposition that is always true is called a tautology. Also, a compound proposition that is always false is called a contradiction. A compound proposition that is neither a tautology nor a contradiction is called a contingency.

Tautology

A proposition is called tautology if it has all truth (T) possibilities in its truth table.

Contradiction

A proposition is called a contradiction if it has all false (F) possibilities in its truth table.

Logical equivalence

Two propositions that have identical truth values in their truth table are called logically equivalent. Two propositions p and q are called logically equivalent if p↔q is a tautology, and it is denoted by p ≡ q.

Logically equivalent statements are “the same” in the sense that logically equivalent statements can be freely substituted for each other without changing the meaning of a compound statement.
For example,

  1. A conditional and its contrapositive are equivalent: p→q≡ ~q→ ~p.
  2. The converse and inverse are equivalent: q→ p≡ ~p→~q.

Use De Morgan’s laws to express the negations

Solution:
  1. Let p be “Mohan has a cellphone” and q be “Mohan has a laptop computer.” Then
    “Mohan has a cellphone and he has a laptop computer” can be represented by

    By the first of De Morgan’s laws, it is

    Consequently, we can express the negation of our original statement as

चक्रिय चतुर्भुज

A cyclic quadrilateral is a quadrilateral whose vertices all lie on a single circle. This circle is called the circumcircle or circumscribed circle, and the vertices are said to be concyclic. Other names for the cyclic quadrilaterals are inscribed quadrilateral , concyclic quadrilateral and chordal quadrilateral, the latter since the sides of the quadrilateral are chords of the circumcircle. Usually the quadrilateral is assumed to be convex, but there are also crossed cyclic quadrilaterals.
The formulas and properties discussed here are only valid in the convex case.
The word cyclic is from the Ancient Greek κύκλος (kuklos), which means "circle" or "wheel".
Please note that, all triangles have a circumcircle, but not all quadrilaterals do. An example of a quadrilateral that cannot be cyclic is a non-square rhombus.

Properties of Cyclic Quadrilateral

The properties of a cyclic quadrilateral help us to identify this figure easily and to solve questions based on it. Some of the properties of a cyclic quadrilateral are given below:
  1. In a cyclic quadrilateral, all the four vertices of the quadrilateral lie on the circumference of the circle.
  2. The four sides of the inscribed quadrilateral are the four chords of the circle.
  3. In a cyclic quadrilateral, p × q = sum of product of opposite sides, where p and q are the diagonals.
  4. The perpendicular bisectors are always concurrent.
  5. The perpendicular bisectors of the four sides of the cyclic quadrilateral meet at the center O.
  6. The sum of a pair of opposite angles is 180° (supplementary). Let ∠A, ∠B, ∠C, and ∠D be the four angles of an inscribed quadrilateral. Then, ∠A+∠C=180° and ∠B+∠D=180°.
  7. The measure of an exterior angle at a vertex is equal to the opposite interior angle.

शैक्षिक सामाग्रीको परिचय

प्रभावकारी शिक्षणको लागी कक्षामा अनुकूल वातावरण सिर्जना गर्नको लागी विषय र पाठअनुसार शैक्षिक सामाग्रीको उपयोग गर्न जरुरी हुन्छ ।
“सुने बिर्सिन्छ, देखे सम्झिन्छ, गरे जानिन्छ र प्रयोगमा ल्याए बानी पर्छ ”
भन्ने मूल उद्देश्यलाई एउटा सफल शिक्षकले अर्थपूर्ण रुपमा शिक्षण सामग्रीको प्रयोगबाट दर्शाउन सक्दछ। शिक्षणमा प्रयोग गरिने सामाग्रीहरू स्थानीय स्रोत र साधनको उपयोग गरि निर्माण वा विकास गर्नु नै गणित शिक्षकको प्रमुख उदेश्य हुनुपर्छ ।

गणित शिक्षणमा प्रयोग हुँदै आएका शैक्षिक सामाग्रीको गणना गर्ने हो भने चकवोर्ड, चक, डस्टर बाहेक तराजु, नाप्ने सिलिन्डर, रुलर, औजार, बाकस, जियोवोर्ड, फलाटीनवोर्ड, चार्ट, प्रोजेक्टर, रेडीयो, टेलिभिजन, कम्पुटर, पत्रपत्रिका जस्तै हजारौ पुग्न सक्छन् । यि सामाग्रीहरूलाई तिनिहरूको प्रयोग तथा कार्यका आधारमा मुख्यरूपमा तीन भागमा वर्गिकरण गर्न सकिन्छ

  1. सन्दर्भ सामाग्री (Literature and Books,Text Based Materials
    गणित सम्बन्धि चाखलाग्दा कितावहरू, पर्चाहरू, लेखहरू, गणितिय जादुहरू, पत्रपत्रिकाहरू यस अन्र्तगत पर्दछन् । यस्ता सामाग्रीले विद्यार्थीको गणितिय पृष्ठभुमिलाई व्यापक बनाउन मद्दत गर्दछ । साथै नयाँ नयाँ ज्ञानहरू सिकाउनमा उत्सुकता पैदा गर्दछ। समस्या समाधानका नयाँ नयाँ तरिका सिकाउनमा यस्ता सामाग्री सहायक मानिन्छन्। यस्ता सामग्री शिक्षक तथा विद्यार्थी दुवैले आत्याधिक प्रयोग गर्ने शैक्षिक सामाग्री हो ।
  2. श्रव्य दृश्य सामाग्री (Audio Visual Aids, Media Based Resources)
    यस अन्तर्गत हेर्न र सुन्नसकिने सामाग्रीहरु पर्दछ । रेडियो, टि.भी., फिल्म स्ट्रिप, भिडियो टेप, ओभरहेड प्रोजेक्टर, कम्प्युटर जस्ता सामग्री यस भित्र पर्दछन् । विकसित मूलुकमा बढी लोकप्रिय दृश्य सामाग्री ओभरहेड प्रोजेक्टर हो । हाम्रो देशमा परम्परागत सामाग्रीहरू बाहेक यस्ता सामाग्री को प्रयोग आजभोली बढ्दै गईरहेको छ।
  3. मोडेल र प्रयोगात्मक सामाग्री (Models and Manipulative Materials)
    (Interactive Materials)
    In Mathematics manipulatives materials are the physical objects or things (or Digital objects) that the student is able to feel, touch, handle or move.
    आफैले हेरेर, खेलाएर, प्रयोग गरेर गणितिय धारणा एव तथ्यहरू पुष्टि गर्न सकिने सामाग्रीलाई प्रयोगात्मक सामाग्री भनिन्छ । यस्ता सामाग्रीहरूलाई विद्यार्थीले अनुभव गर्न, छुन र दायाँ बायाँ सार्न अर्थात आफै चलाउन सक्दछन । संख्यारेखा, संख्याचार्ट, वर्गिकृतचार्ट, ग्राफ, नक्सा, एबाकस, जियोवोर्ड, टेन ग्राम आदि यसमा पर्दछन ।यस्ता प्रयोगात्मक सामाग्रीहरू दुई आयामिक र तीन आयामिक हुन सक्छन् ।

सामाग्रीको प्रयोगका आधारहरू

शैक्षिक सामाग्रीको निमार्ण र छनौट मात्र ठूलो कुरा होइन अर्थात शैक्षिक सामाग्रीको उपलब्धता मात्र ठूलो कुरा होइन । मूल कुरा त के हो भने शैक्षिक सामाग्रीको प्रयोग कसरी गरीन्छ त्यसमा शैक्षिक सामाग्रीको उपयोगिता भर पर्दछ । राम्रो शैक्षिक सामाग्री भएर पनि सही र ठीक ढंगले त्यसको प्रयोग हुन सकेन भने त्यसको कुनै औचित्य रहदैन । खासगरी प्रयोगात्मक सामाग्री प्रयोगमा निम्न कुरामा ध्यान दिन जरुरी छ।

शैक्षिक आधार

  1. शैक्षणिक सामाग्रीले गणितिय धारणाहरूलाइ प्रतिविम्वित गर्ने हुनुपर्दछ ।
  2. शैक्षणिक सामाग्रीले विधार्थीलाई आर्किर्षत गर्न सक्ने र उत्प्रेरणा जगाउन सक्ने खालको हुनुपर्दछ

Area of Circle: Disection Method

Consider a circle of radius r. Now, divide the circle into slices, or sectors. Then the circle's area can be easily visualized by rearranging these sectors to form a rectangle.
In the subdivision of circle, the area of circle is equal to the area of rectangle where

  • approximate length of the rectangle is half of the circumference of circle, this is \(\pi r\)
  • approximate breadth of the rectangle is r

Combining these two relations, we know, Area of circle= area of rectangle. Thus

Area of circle =Area of rectangle
=length x breadth
=\(\pi⋅r \times r \)
=\(\pi⋅r^2\)
Hence, area of circle is \(\pi⋅r^2\)

Although we use only approximations for the length and width, the resulting formula for the circle's area is exact.




Area of Circle: Archimidies Method

Almost 23 centuries ago, Archimedes determined the area of a circle in terms of its circumference. Two basic facts are used to establish the result.

  1. The area of a regular polygon with apothem and perimeter. (An apothem of a regular polygon is a line segment or the distance from the center to the midpoint of a side.)
  2. The essence of the method of exhaustion: given a preassigned area, no matter how small, one can find an inscribed regular polygon for which the difference between the circle's area and the polygon's is less than this preassigned amount.

The basic idea is to approximate the area of a circle from above is by inscribing regular polygons of a larger and number of sides.
Each of the polygons is a union of triangles, and hence for them it is easy to see that the area is equal to one half the product of the radius and the circumference, or equal to the area of a triangle whose height is equal to the radius and whose base is the circumference.
Let us assume that
Radius of circle is \(=r\)
Area of circle is \(=\pi r^2\)
Now
Let us assume that
Base of each triangle is \(=b\)
Height (Apothom) of each triangle \(=r\)
Area of polygon is \(=\frac{1}{2}(nb)r\)
The proof is showing that the limit of \(nb=2 \pi r\), so limit of area of the polygon is equal to that of the circle.




Triangle Center

In geometry, a triangle center is a point in the plane that is in some sense a center of a triangle, it is not like the circle's center, that is, a point that is in the middle of the figure by some measure. In triangles, the common centers are, for example, centroid, circumcenter, orthocenter, incenter, and ex-center.

  1. Centroid
    A centroid of a triangle is the point where the three medians of the triangle meet.
    A median of a triangle is a line segment from one vertex to the midpoint on the opposite side of the triangle.
    The centroid is also called the center of gravity of the triangle. If you have a triangle plate, try to balance the plate on your finger. Once you have found the point where it will balance, that is the centroid of that triangle.

  2. Circumcenter
    The circumcenter is the point where the perpendicular bisectors of a triangle intersect.
    The circumcenter is also the center of the triangle's circumcircle.
    A circumcircle is a circle that passes through all three vertices of the triangle. The center of this circle is called the circumcenter and its radius is called the circumradius. In the Figure below, the circumcenter is shown.

  3. Orthocenter
    The orthocenter is the point where all three altitudes of the triangle intersect.
    An altitude is a line that passes through a vertex of the triangle and is perpendicular to the opposite side.

  1. Incenter
    The incenter is one of the triangle's points of concurrency formed by the intersection of the triangle's 3 angle bisectors.
    The incenter always lies as the triangle's interior (unlike the orthocenter or circumcenter which may or may not lie in the interior).

  2. Ex-center
    Ex-center is the center of a circle, called an excircle which is tangent to one side of the triangle and the extensions of the other two sides.
    It is a point at which the line bisecting one interior angle meets the bisectors of the two exterior angles on the opposite side.

    प्रयोगः–सामाग्रीलाई क्रमै सँग देखाउनु पर्ने र विषयवस्तुको प्रस्तुतिकरण परिवर्तन गर्दै जानु पर्ने भएकोले, वोर्डमा भएका चित्रहरूलाई इच्छा अनुसार यताउता सार्न, झिक्न र फेरी मिलाएर टास्न सकिन्छ ।

  2. २. ग्राफ वोर्ड (Graph Board)
    • यसमा साना साना वर्गाकार कोठाहरु बनाईएको हुन्छ
    • १०० से.मि. × ७० से.मि. ठाउँ चाहिन्छ । छ से.मि. को फरकमा वर्गाकार रेखाहरू कोर्नुपर्छ यो रेखाहरूमा रातो वा पहेलो हुनुपर्दछ ।
    • माध्यामिक तथा निम्न माध्यमिक गणित शिक्षणका लागि प्रभावकारी

    प्रयोगः– ज्यामितिय चित्रहरू, साध्यहरू प्रमाणित गर्दा चाहिने चित्रहरू, वर्गहरू तथा बिजगणितका सर्वसमिकाहरू आदि दुरुस्तसँग कोर्न यसको प्रयोग गरिन्छ । ग्राफहरू सिकाउन पनि उपयोगमा ल्याइन्छ ।

  3. ३. बुलेटिन वोर्ड
    • सामाग्रीलाई थम्पीनले टास्ने नरम काठको पाटीलाई बुलेटिन वोर्ड भनिन्छ ।
    • गणितका विभिन्न तालीकाहरू/नमुनाहरू टास्नको लागि यसको प्रयोग गरिन्छ
    • फलाटिन बोर्डमा शैक्षिक सामाग्रीलाई छिटो छिटो राख्ने झिक्ने गरिन्छ भने बुलेटिन बोर्डमा टासिएको सामाग्रीलाई केही समय त्यसै राखिन्छ ।
    • सुचना टास्नको लागि सुचना पाटीको रूपमा पनि यसको प्रयोग हुन्छ

  4. ४. जियो बोर्ड
    • जियो बोर्ड एउटा वर्गाकार प्लाईउडको टुक्रा हो ।
    • बराबर दुरीमा किलाहरू गाडिएका हुन्छन् ।
    • ३० x ३० वर्ग से.मि.को प्लाइउड लिएर ३ x ३ वर्ग से.मि.को दुरिमा किलाहरू गाडिएका हुन्छन् ।

    प्रयोगः–ज्यामितिय आकारहरूको धारणा दिनको लागि अत्यन्त उपयोगी शैक्षिक सामाग्री हो । रबर बेण्डको सहायताले सरल रेखाहरू, समानान्तर रेखाहरू, लम्ब रेखाहरू, कोणहरू, त्रिभुज तथा बहुभुज देखाउन सकिन्छ । यसबाट Mensuration, HCF, LCM, fraction multiplication, Symmetry को धारणा पनि सिकाउन सकिन्छ ।

  5. ५. ज्यामितिय औजारहरू
    • ज्यामितिय कोणहरू खिच्ने र नाप्ने सामाग्री हो । यसको सहायता बाट भिन्न कोणहरूको ज्ञान दिन पनि सकिन्छ । । कोणहरू नाप्दा चापको आधारमा रेखाकोणको कुनै एउटा बाहुमा ठीक माथि खप्टिने गरि राख्नु पर्छ र चाँदको केन्द्रबिन्दु कोणको शीर्षमा परेको हुनुपर्छ ।
    • कालोपाटीमा ठीक मापन कोणहरू खिच्न, नाप्न, ज्यामिति चित्रहरू बनाउन यसको प्रयोग गरिन्छ ।
    • सरल रेखा खिच्न, रेखाको दुरि नाप्न मिटर स्केलको प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ । साथै ज्यामितिय चित्रहरू वृतको परिधि, अर्धव्यास आदि मापन गर्न मिटर स्केलको प्रयोग गरिन्छ ।
    • यसको सहायताबाट वृत्त खिच्न सकिन्छ । यसलाई रेखाको दुरी नाप्न पनि प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ, यसको साथै वृत्तको अर्धव्यास, व्यास आदि समेत नाप्न सकिन्छ । चकको एक छेउलाई धागोले बाँधी कम्पासको काम लिन सकिन्छ
  6. ६. अङ्कपत्ति

    अङ्कपत्तिका लागि ८ से.मि. चौडाइ र १० से.मी. लम्बाई भएको आयतकार कार्डबोर्ड चाहिन्छ । यसै कार्डबोर्डको दुवैपट्टी भागलाई प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ । एकातिर अङ्क र अर्कोपट्टी चित्र बनाएर अङ्कपित्त तयार हुन्छ । कार्डबोर्डलाई स्थानमानको हिसाब पढाउँदा पनि प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ ।

  7. ७. गोजी तालिका
    गोजी तालिकालाई अङ्क चिनाउने, अक्षर चिनाउनेको रुपमा पनि प्रयोग गर्नुपर्दछ । गोजी तालिकालाई स्थानमानको हिसाव पठाउँदा पनि प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ । पहिलो गोजमिा राखिएका थुप्रै सिक्काहरुमध्ये १०–१० वटाको मुठ्ठी बनाउँदै दोस्रो गोजीमा राख्नुपर्दछ । त्यसैगरी दोस्रो गोजीमा भएका मुठ्रीहरुमध्ये १०–१० बटाको मुठा बनाउँदै तेस्रो गोजीमा राख्नुपर्दछ । तेस्रो गोजीमा रहेका थुप्रै मुठाहरुमध्ये १०–१० वटाको एउटा बोझा बनाउँदै चौथो गोजमिा राखनुपर्दछ ।
  8. ८. बेसटेन ब्लक
    यसबाट एक,दश,सय, हजारको धारणा प्रष्टसँग दिन सकिन्छ । यसको प्रयोगबाट जोड, घटाउ, गुणन र भाग जस्ता क्रियाहरुको शिक्षण गर्न सकिन्छ ।
  9. एबाकस
    एबाकसलाई पहिलो क्याकुलेटिङ मेसिन भनिन्छ । सरल खालका एबाकसले ठूलाठूला हिसाब गर्न सक्तैन तर आधारभूत धारणाहरुललाई बुझाउने काम राम्ररी गर्न सक्दछ । जटिल किसीमका एबाकसले क्याल्कुलेटिङ मेसिन जस्तै छिटो काम गर्न सक्दछ । कठिनभन्दा कठिन क्रियाहरु पनि गर्न सक्दछ । सरल तथा जटिल दुवै खालका एबाकसहरुको निर्माण का लागि विजुलीको वाइरिङगर्ने लिस्टि, ल्वाङ किला आदिको प्रयोग गर्नु पर्दछन् ।

  10. सङ्ख्यारेखा

    प्रयोगः प्राकृतिक संङख्याहरुको समूह, पूर्णाङ्क संङख्याहरुको समूह, पूर्ण संङख्याहरुको समूह साथ साथै पूर्णाङ्कहरुको जोड,घटाउ,गुणनलाई संख्या रेखामा देखाउन सकिन्छ ।

    सन् १६१७ मा John Napier ले एउटा गुणा गर्ने मेसिनको आविस्कार गरेका थिए । जसलाई हामी नेपियर रड भन्छौ। न्यापीपर रडको प्रयोग गरेर हामी ठुलो ठुलो सङ्ख्यामा गुणनहरु पनि सजिलै पत्ता लगाउन सक्दछौँ । यसलाई शिक्षण सामग्रीको रुपमा प्रयोग गर्दा बालबालिकाहरुलाई ठूला ठूला सङ्याहरुको गुणनफल पत्ता लगाउन मद्दत गर्दछ ।
  21. टेनग्राम
    • 8'' by 8'' को वर्गाकार काठको टुक्रा वा प्लाइड लिएर त्यसलाई राम्रोसँग खाक्सी लगाएर चिल्लो बनाउने
    • विपरित शीर्षविन्दुबाट विकर्ण खिच्ने । यसरी उक्त विकर्णले वर्गलाई दुई बराबर समकोण त्रिभुजमा विभाजन गर्दछ । त्यसपछि विकर्णलाई बराबर चार भागमा चिन्ह लगाउनुपर्छ । त्यस्तैगरी तल्लो त्रिभुजका समबाहुका मध्यविन्दुहरू जोड्नुपर्छ ।
    • यसरी उक्त वर्गलाई दुईवटा ठूला त्रिभुज (६ र ७), एउटा मझौला त्रिभुज (१), दुईवटा साना त्रिभुज (५ र ६), एउटा वर्ग (४) र एउटा समानान्तर चतुर्भुज (२) गरी सातवटा टुक्रामा विभाजन हुनेगरी काट्ने र फरक–फरक रंग लगाउने ।

    प्रयोगः विद्यालय तहमा टेनग्रामलाई पज्जल खेलको रूपमा प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ । टेनग्रामका सातवटा टुक्रालाई फरक फरक तरिकाले मिलाएर विभिन्न ज्यामितीय आकार तथा नमूनाहरू जस्तैस् त्रिभुज, समानान्तर चतुर्भुज, समलम्ब चतुर्भुज, आयत आदि बनाएर शिक्षण गर्न सकिन्छ । ज्यामितिय आवृतिहरुको गुणहरुको पहिचान गर्न । विद्यार्थीहरुले जनावरहरु (माछा, बिरालो, हाँस) चराहरु, मानिसहरु, घोडा चढेको मानिस, नाचिरहेको मानिस, वर्णमालाका अक्षरहरु र अन्य नमूनाहरु बनाउन सकिन्छ ।

    • फरक फरक किसिमका बोधहरुको धारणालाई सहज र सरल ढंगबाट प्रस्तुत गर्न
    • भुजाहरुबाट त्रिभुजका गुणहरु विश्लेषण गर्न सकिन्छ ।
    • त्रिभुजको भित्री कोणहरुको योगफल हेर्न हुन्छ ।
    • ठूलो कोणको सम्मुख भुजा सबभन्दा लामो हुन्छ
    • सानो कोणको सम्मुख भुजा बराबर हन्छ ।

    • वृत्त र वृत्त सम्बन्धी विभिन्न धारणा, साध्यहरु तथा समस्याका समाधाचन गर्नका निम्ति प्रयोग गरी यी सम्बन्धी स्पष्ट धारणा दिन सकिन्छ ।
